ok.. well im planning on getting an alpine type r 10 inch sub, and making a spare tire enclosure .... now i know a box makes a big difference in sound. is the sparetire well large enough for a 10 inch 500 wat rms sub or should i just go with a weaker sub?

also would i have to vent the enclosure

i think you'll have enough air space but not enough depth. i havent really looked intot he specs, but im sure the type R is around 7 in deep? and you may need to make a false floor to lift it up so your sub will sit flush. but this is just from quick thinking, not really detailed, so i may not have helped at all. but check out edesignaudio.com they have spare tire enclosures for 2 10" good reviews sofar

Pull out you spare and get the dual SQ10 box from ED, box and subs will run you 290, buy a nine.2 amp as well and you are at 500 bucks or so but I know ED will give you a package discount of around 15% if you call them and ask for it. The Q-logic box sucks BTW it is too small and has resonance issues that make it sound awful to my SQ judge ears

fiberglass would increase the cost to around 500 bucks from 150 as for taking it out less than 5 minutes, there is a video somwhere on it but it was 1 minute to install or remove it.

If you are doing that setup u can only use the SQ10's as they are the only ones thin enough to fit, and the box is designed for them. As for the material they are talking about MDF Lite which does offer the weight savings. As for amp you would want to use a nine.2.

If you put a sub in the spare tire spot you need to find one that will work with a very small chamber... I wonder how much volume is in there? The MA audio 8" sub I bought only needs .25 cubic feet of space if it's a sealed enclosure and now that I fixed my little distortion problem it sounds great! It won't win any loudest system contests but it's enough to shake the rear view mirror.
