You are forgetting that you need to reoil that bearings for the IACV. Brake cleaner dissolves the oil in the bearings. A few drops of 3m all in one oil into the bearings will do the trick. Or not and risk seizing up the bearing and you have to buy a whole new IACV assembly. Nope, can't buy just that part, unless you get one 3rd hand.

I wonder wth Honda recommends replacing the IAC - nothing in Helms about servicing it...

Yeah they do. But cleaning worked for many people. Mine probably "should" be replaced, even after cleaning, the idle jumps like crazy 1-2k when cold, but work well after it's warmed up.

^^ my IACV never threw any codes but it was slightly whacked like you describe and replacing it improved idle swings and part throttle hesitation immensely.
