nice write up. haven't seen anyone do a blow by blow in quite some time. A few notes to make about sizing and clearance.



Crankshaft main / rod journals:

I would not recommend going by the codes on the crank if the crank has been polished. Depending on whom is servicing the crank, i've seen a few tenths (0.0001''-0.0003'') come off after polishing. One should also check to see if the mains / rods have any taper / out of roundness.


Engine block main journals and connecting rod journals:

Both of these should be checked for out of roundness when torqued to spec without bearings installed. I've seen many cheap rods be significantly out of round straight out of the box. If you're using something high end (Carillo, Pauter, Manley) there is a much lower probability of it being out of round.


If one doesn't have the skill or equipment to check these dimensions, make sure to have a qualified machine shop do it.
