Shifter Selector / Gear Selector help!

Hello everyone,

I have an 05 Type S. (Location: Nashville, TN) After replacing the OEM gear selector springs with Hybrid Racing ones, I put the shifter selector back into the transmission and as I put the bolt interlock (Part #: 24433-PH8-000) and tightened it, I overtightened the bolt cracking the threads within the case and now the bolt just spins pretty freely.

As I drive, transmission fluid leaks out of where the bolt goes which is gunking up my transmission and I would really look to repair this but I have no experience with thread repairs. Ive tried reaching out to transmission shops in my area but nobody wants to touch it so I’m taking it upon myself and hopefully with the help of this forum I can accomplish this. Can anyone please explain to me how I can go about drilling and tapping this so that I can stop the leaking? I’ve tried to watch Helicoil videos on YouTube and I’ve done so much research on this but it seems as if I’m the only fool that’s ever done this. Feel free to trash talk, but at the end of the day I really want to fix this.

the photo shown below is the exact location I am talking about and as you can see on the outer edge of the bolt is gunked up Tranny fluid.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

The same bolt in my base model was over torqued by someone who owned the car before me. They glued it back in place and it fell out on the freeway as I was driving it around. I figure the transmission has to be pulled to do the heli-coil job appropriately.

I tried my best to do it without splitting the case, but I got a ton of metal shavings inside the case so I had no choice. I'm also believe the bolt might be some special thread as I took it to a tooling shop to have it looked at so I could buy the appropriate heli-coil kit. 250+ for this damn kit and all I used was one coil. The bolt went back in, fairly tight, so I just set some sealant on the threads and tightened it back up and haven't had a problem since.

This is a first experience for me so take that with a grain of salt. Knowing what I do now, I would try to pull the shift selector to see if I would be able to rig up an attachment to a vacuum on the inside of the case and use a right angle drill to try and keep from having to pull the transmission.
