So where do I start? (Cliff Notes at end)

Okay, so I was leaving school at night. My friend was in front of me and I was at a stop sign. After yielding all traffic in the parking zone, I then pulled a left turn and ended up right behind him at a traffic light. He then showed his reverse lights and I was thinking he might be joking around like most people do. No way could he possibly reverse on a red traffic light (there shouldn't be any need to do so). So he reverses into me when my car is right behind him. For what reason? I do not know. He claims that he never hit the gas while reversing and did not see me in the rearview.

Basically I got hit from an idle reverse (so I guess) at a red traffic light when I was right behind him. It scratched my car, I was really upset. The seatbelts locked tightly and I heard a dooosh sound. At that point I was alarmed and I guess most of you who been in an accident know that it is all too quick to recall minor details.

He gets outside and looks at what happened. I said theres scratches on my car and then the light turns green so he just drives off. I got really upset at the fact that this is a stupid and VERY AVOIDABLE accident that was VERY UNNECESSARY.

My front bumper and A-spec lip are scratched but the paint isnt scratched off. It left some paint transfer from his car onto mine though. It's the kind of scratch that you would see on a used CD or DVD. Looks like surface scratches that don't affect the paint. I tried rubbing it off but it isn't working. Does anybody know how much it will cost to get rid of that or fix it? I am absolutely stressed and very pissed at the incident that happened even though it was an accident that nobody wanted to happen.

Cliff-Notes
- Exiting school, stopped behind friend's car at traffic light.
- Friend reversed at the traffic light in idle speed and bumped into my car (small gap from my car and his car due to stopping at light)
- Left minor scratches that are colorless on my front bumper (appears hazed looking)

Main Question
I heard this can be fixed by either buffing or doing touch-up paint (rather not because of pricing). Half the bumper and corner of the aspec lip is scuffed. Does anybody know or can give me an estimate how much it should cost?

wtf? why the hell was he reversing for? lmfao someone cant drive?

make his ass pay for it. fuckin n00bs ftl. usually your front end gets hit because you hit someone, not because someone hit you. sorry but that is the most pathetic incident ever.

i know it is his fault. but i dont think a cop would even give a shit if its scratched and nobody got hurt or anything. no dents or cracking.

this will be a noob question but, should i do it with a porter cable? i never polished before nor do i have a porter cable. but if it gets the job done, i think ill go to a detailing pro and have them do that spot if itll really get that out. do you think it'll make the marks go away entirely?

#7 ·
You're gonna need a real aggressive polish to get those out, then finish with a fine polish, And yes use a random orbital porter cable.

And FYI, get some money from that idiot who was infront of you.

i will try to get that done. thanks. just hope itll all go away. any way you think I can make it look good as new for around 50 bucks?

and as far as paying back, it was a "friend" and i seriously doubt he'd pay me. =(
cant really do much once he drove off and i drove off after lights turned green cuz people honked. if he wont give me money then theres nothing i can do about it =(

take it to a bodyshop, get it fixed right so it looks the way it did before you got backed into and give the bill to your friend. Don't try and bandaid fix it, he fucked up and he pays for it. That's just how it is.

I don't even see anything.......I've got same amount of scratches just from driving on freeways......but yeah, you're friend's an idiot - should have kept his foot on the brake, better yet, not put it in reverse at all. Work it out with him.

I'm wondering about the woosh sound, and the seatbelts tightening. Sounds like your pretensioner was set off, though I've never heard it. If it deployed, which it sounds like it did, you should replace it - it's a one time deal, like airbags.

Is the pretensioner what makes the seatbelts retract and afer that it doesnt work anymore? how could i check to see if it wasnt deployed or deployed? (i was right behind him at the stop light, there was barely any room for him to hit me hard with, just really backed up and banged into me right away) I been in an before this and i remember after i got hit, the seatbelts never retracted again.

friend wont pay, i already know he wont its for sure.

Well, if they won't charge you......but if it's deployed, they will try and sell you another one, I think. I don't think deployed pretensioners, airbags, etc. are covered.

Here's a pic of the undeployed one I still have - maybe you can tell by looking at this picture. I can sell it to you if you want. Sorry, like I said, the driver side one was already deployed.

Seats belts are life time warranty

however since there was an accident involved.....they arent

dont tell them anyone hit your car...
play dumb

say..."idk my seatbelt is werid"

yea i hit my boys car on accident one time....i was willing to pay...however long story short...he let someone else drive his car...and they nearly totaled it...so i didnt have to pay hehe

:rotfl: i should. i want my entire car in Champion White now hahaha

#31 ·
well lets just say its an acquaintance because i dont hang out with them. i know and talk to them whenever we see face to face.

but as for paying, experience and history tends to repeat itself if you know what i mean. so i already know its not gonna happen

people are telling me to buff it. one of my buddies said he has a porter cable and that he'll polish it for me. just wondering if there will be any risk in degrading the paint because of polishing it.

^yea thats true....but if he is just an aquaintance, thats more of a reason for u to ask him to pay up...u know?? if a true friend of mine hit my car resulting in minimal damage, i would not accept their offer if they offered to pay for repairs..but somebody u just know?? i mean especially after they did something stupid like that?? and he just drives off without even offering to help you out in some way with repairs?? maybe if he offered to help you out, you could perhaps just let it slide..but he just takes off??...i just think you should try to get yours regardless of what kinda of person this guy is..obviously not a very smart or a very considerate one..

yeah but i think it being under 500 dollars in damage, if i called the cops they wouldnt file an accident report. but what do i do if he refuses to give money? i mean hes gonna say he barely tapped me and that im over reacting probably. thats what you would expect from someone who doesnt wanna pay. even though it is a minor accident

Use lacyr thinner on a cloth and wipe over the area, then use a cleaner wax on it with a buffer, after that use buffing compound on the buffer, then wax by hand and then use swirl remover by hand. it will work, i work at a detailing shop.

never heard of lacyr thinner, can i find this an auto store? thanks for the tips by the way.

i had acura check out the seatbelts. i claimed that the seatbelt lights came on (we dont have any) haha. and i said that they feel like they dont lock when i rapidly brake and i feel as if its an issue in safety.

they reported that the seatbelts are fine at the moment and meet acura standards.
