Transmission Whining...help!

I have an '03 type S with almost 80k miles on it. I haven't taken it to the track yet, and i don't drive like i'm running from the cops. I got it from a stealership last year and, yeah, i admit, :deadhorse i got ripped off. Anyway, my transmission has had some whine since i got it. It happens in 1st and 2nd (it might be in other gears, but by the time i'm in them, i'm travelling too fast to hear the sound). Just for comparison, it's in no way as loud as the usual REVERSE whine that all hondas do. I'm not too sure if it's loud enough to hear from the outside of the car. For some dumbass reason i'm surrounded by people who can't drive standard. Maybe i should move. So i have no way to test the sound with someone else driving. Long story short, my wife just had her transmission on her civic rebuilt at a shop which came out to about $2k. So basically i'm just wondering if a simple tranny fluid flush will help, while at the sametime looking for any internal wear and tear. Because like i said, i got it from a dealer, so i have no idea what this car went through before me. Or, is this sound kinda normal. I've driven lots of hondas, but they've always had good sound systems in them so i never really paid much attention to the sound of the engine. This car's different though, i just want to make sure it's nice and healthy before i take it to the track. Any info is much appreciated...

i had that same problem too with my 05-06 rsx type s. My problem was that I redline from 3rd and accidently shift to 2nd instead of 4th (yeah dumb move i know) and after that ive noticed the same noise just like how u describe it. I bought it back 2 acura since i had warrenty and they couldn't fix my old tranny because the noise keep coming back so i got my tranny replaced. Brand new tranny with 0 mile. So just rebuilt it. Honda tranny comes with weak gear joints anyways. Maybe the previous owner did the same thing too. Best wish to ur problem.

Sounds like the same problem i got. My tranny was making is weird belt whining sort of noise, you can hear it especially at idle, or in my garage where it will echo. But the noise kept getting worse and worse. I finally found out it was the Throw-out Bearing. AKA its time for a new Clutch. Im at 76,000 miles on my '03 type S. Maybe this is your problem? Hope this helped

Does it sound like this, see below? I have a similar whine that is coming from my Tranny and is getting louder. I hear it more in 1st and 2nd gear but as I climb higher than 3k, I can't hear it and at higher speeds, I can't hear it.

A shop told me that there is a bearing in the tranny that is going. He said that breaking open the tranny and replacing the bearing or bearings would cost me about $800 and for now to just ignore it until it gets too annoying for me to handle.

Thanx for the ideas...currently, i'm looking for a new clutch. This "throw out bearing"? Would changing the clutch solve the problem with it? Or is the bearing a completely different price tag?
Also, earlier i mentioned my wife's tranny having to be rebuilt. The guy who did the work mentioned a tranny filter (which is basically just like a screen of some type). He said that the "filter" was clogged by particles inside the tranny. These "particles" (yes, i like using quotations), are from parts being worn out/down internally, then getting trapped inside the filter, causing the "whining" noise to come from the transmission fluid pump. Because it's starving for fluid and running dry. Now i know that comparing an 02 civic LX to a type S is like night and day, but i was just wondering if this could also be true, maybe?
Sorry for asking so many questions, thanx again for the help!
