Since I have been getting lots of questions regarding the RBC on the base model I thought I would put together a quick DIY for anyone who needed help. . Also a place for anyone to ask questions about the install.

This is just a quick DIY with the basics. Refer to helms manual for torque specs and on how to remove the easy stuff. (If you don't already know) I am not responsible for anything that happens to your car during this install.

Tools Needed:
Socket Set.... multiple sizes
Neddle Nose Pliers
Jack with Jack stands
Dremel with cut off wheel (optional I needed to modify RBC)
Screw Drivers
Helms Manual

Parts Needed:
-K-pro (do not start without)
-Modified RBC intake Manifold
-Karcepts Adapter
-Type S throttle body fits better but I used the base one just had to modify the rad support a little. If using Type S Throttle body you will have to rewire the TPS. There is three wires 123, you have to switch 1 and 3 to make the sequence 321.
-Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket
-Honda OEM Gaskets P/N: 16176-RBC-004, 16176-PRB-A01
-Honda OEM Vacuum Hose P/N# 36263-RAA-A00

1.First start by removing battery and anything that be in your way. Also it helps to drain the coolant (makes things so much eaiser) If you do not want to do this then make sure to plug off the any coolant lines removed or you will be in for a mess.

2.Remove bumper, spash sheild, and loosen the bolts on the rad support so you are able to move it around to make things eaiser.

3. Remove Intake.

4.Release the pressure on the fuel system, Remove the EVAP hose, Brake Booster Hose, PCV hose, Vacuum hose, Water bypass hoses, throttle cables, fuel lines, fuel injector connectors,IACV connector, TPS connector, Map sensor connector and EVAP conister purge vavle connector from your current intake manifold and throttle body setup. Make sure all sensors and hoses are removed and proceed with the next steps.

5. Remove Throttle Body ( I just placed it in the battery tray)

6. Remove Intake manifold and Intake Manifold Gasket (base intake manifold comes off in two peices)

Make Sure to keep Track of Everything!!!

7. locate port atop the flange on your RBC manifold that stems from the nipple and mark and drill a 15/32" into your intake manifold gasket to line up with this hole. (Thanks to Karcepts for these Pictures)

8. Bolt up Karcepts adaptor to RBC manfold with supplied bolts

Image

9. Install throttle body onto RBC you either have to relocate the MAP sensor to the top of the manifold or drill a small hole in the throttle body gasket where the map sensor reads so it can read properly. (I relocated it to the manifold)

Image

10. Reinstall RBC Manifold, plug in all sensors, hoses, fuel rail, injectors etc
Also remember to install the provided vacumm hose onto the nipple atop the manifold flange and to the intake air bypass control valve

11. Check for clearance issues. I had to bend the A/C line a little bit to the right side to allow the hood to properly close no big deal.

12. Open up K manager in K-pro uncheck the secondary dual runners option under parameters/ Vtec.

13. GO GET A TUNE! *** Very Important***

14.Enjoy!! :weeeeeeeeee:

Just added:
SHIITTTY CHART of how to rewire TPS sensor(for Type S Throttle body only!!!!) Because I never took pics of that.

Ya that's a good idea. You know, just for now until I decide to remove it. It's getting cold over here in Jersey and I don't want to mess with it in the cold lol. When kpro comes im definately zip tying it.

Ya it's the same on both. I pushed mine to the right and under my ram air intake. The first time I attempted rbc I bent my hood cause im a dumb-ass! lol, but this time I got it to work out perfect. Good luck man. I have had the rbc in for a couple weeks, love the sound and power difference. Just gotta get kpro, im a hundred bucks short. lol

I just reread it and it says best offer, so im going to go with 2g's and see what happens. I now have $1,054.00 just sitting here. lol, christmas week I will have the rest. God I can't wait. Ok, so should I kpro my base ecu or buy a type s ecu and kpro that? I really don't feel like spending an extra 600 on another ecu!

serious bro.. go the the scrap yard and get a type S complete engine for like $1200
buy kpro for your ECU and install the motor.

our base axle, tranny, mounts, harness all the will work
as long as ecu is kpro and you get a completed engine (injectors, intake, TB) your laughing...
then sell your motor for $500-800 and get RBC, exhaust :) thats my plan ;)

I never found an rsx in the junk-yard yet. But anyways, this comes wit harness, axles, header, s mani, 6 spd trans, shifter box/cables and throttle body. I already have rbc, and s throttle body. Was gonna buy kpro, but I want to get the motor first. I'm going to build the bottom end and buy the full race or peak-boost turbo kit and then slap it in all at once.

Would the s harness that comes with the swap, work with my ecu? I'm going to have a closet full of stuff soon. I got the guy down to 2 grand but still gotta wait til I get paid in two wks so I don't wipe out my account.

so if i installed a type s intake and a type s 70 mm throtle body do i need to have kpro and do i need to switch the tps wires around
Your gonna need kpro and to switch the outside wires to fit the s body. Ive driven mine without kpro and still haven't kpro'd it yet. I had the rbc, karcepts and s throttle body on for about two months without kpro. I drove the car about a total of 40 miles since the swap in two months. I am nervous to drive it much without kpro. The cel is on for both sensors and the car idles rough between 1-2500. It surges but ater it warms up, you can't tell it's got cel on because it rips and idles normal. lol, I know I shouldn't have drove it but what the hell. lol rbc:thumbsup:

So, the problem either way you go, is going to be your two imrc (intake manifold runner control) sensors. The reason u need kpro is because neither of the two manifolds stated, have the imrc in them. (kpro enables you to delete them) Without kpro, your ecu is going to see them missing and flood your engine with gas or lean it out. You can use the s manifold but will need the adapter and s throttle body. The gaskets for our a3 tb is different than the a2. If I were you, I would buy rbc, karcepts adapter, s throttle body and kpro. The rbc mani has more even air flow and better top end power gains, plus it sounds insane when vtec kicks. You could use the base cai or rai but it's gonna be a tight fit. just remember to swap the outside wires on your tps because s bodies tps is opposite of ours.:)

well I have the s throttle body, hondata gasket, karcepts adapter, rbc mani with injen rai and mine just screams. It kinda falls on it's face for a split second when you punch it from a dead stop, but other than that, it sounds mean and you feel it pull hard at top end. I'm not driving mine any more for a while tho, until I get kpro.

#72 ·
guys, stop doing mods like this without k-pro. you have no idea what your doing to your engine. no clue if its running rich or lean or what effects its having. if your serious about modding, get the damn k-pro first. its alot better than blowing shit up or screwing up your car. if you cant afford it, then maybe you should rethink what your trying to do in the first place. this hobby aint cheap, and if you go cheap, you go expensive fixing what cheap broke.

#73 ·
I completly agree with Rick here.

Kpro was my first mod and if you want to gain any power or potential out of your mods you will need it. Without it you are risking your engine and are basically just wasting money.

You have to pay to play :vtec:

who says we dont have money? i hear your argument, i aint driving her, i did rip it a couple times tho. i didnt buy it, cause some dude was selling an a2 swap. anyways, the car just sits. The guy with the motor flaked so, I guess im gonna buy kpro. I just got done with my bankruptcy, so i am going to have fun with my car this year, mod-wise! AS stated tho, DO NOT INSTALL WITHOUT KPRO, IT"S DANGEROUS FOR THE ENGINE. I drove mine without it, dumb move really.
