Yeah try the dealer. They may it may not stock them.  Yes there's metric
and non metric threads.  Next time you encounter this use a hammer and a
good wide screw driver and hit the screw a few taps straight in to loosen
the threads.  Then proceed to loosen the screws.  If still too tight grab
the screw driver with some channel locks and push inwards as hard as you
can with one palm and loosen the screw with the other hand twisting the pliers

So i replaced the actuator and tried the lock with the door lock switch inside the car before re-installing the door lining and it worked. But when I tried to lock the door with the keyless remote, it doesn't lock. With the keyless remote, all of doors wont lock anymore, did I do something wrong? when i tested the door lock, i only reconnected the door handle. When i reconnect the power mirror, will that make my keyless remote work?

Why did you remount the panel and not reconnect the power mirrors when you were done? Just plug them in and see. I have no idea if it will or not, but its possible that its causing it not to get power.

When is the last time you used your remote? Try changing the battery in it. My remote wouldn't work from some positions around the car and the range was very low. Replacing the battery made it 3x more powerful. Works every time and from farther away.

great writeup! i did mine yesterday, but crsx was down, so i had to rely on my cunning adaptation ability....well really it took me like 5 hours, because i couldnt get the gold rod off so i broke out the old actuator out of frustration, installed the new one by feel and i made the mistake of unscrewing the inside door handle assembly and that was like 3 hours of headache to line it up and screw it in by feel -_-

awesome, I have this problem with my car too, on both doors!

not sure if this was already discussed in this 12-page thread, but I'm wondering if there's a way to simply fix the actuators as opposed to replacing them. if I can save even more money on it then that would be great.

i fixed mine with some cable from homedepot, and some crimp ends to keep it from spilling. needed a dremel but it worked great.

I just replaced my driver side actuator and also had trouble removing the gold bar from the door handle. Felt like I was going to snap off the plastic door handle mount so I ended up just removing the door handle which was not very difficult and gave me full access to remove the gold bar with ease. My car is a 2002, maybe older cars are harder to remove the gold bar.

To remove the exterior door handle there is a metal spring clip behind the lock mechanism on the inside of the door (the round thing with the brown wire coming out of it), I used a small screwdriver to slide the end of the spring clip a bit to the right and caught it on the bottom with another small screw driver and slid it down and out. I then removed the two large bolts and removed the lock mechanism which at this point just slid out. The metal bracket on the inside comes out and the door handle can easily be slipped out of the door toward the outside. Make sure to protect the outside of your door so the lever does not scratch it up. You may need to have the latch mechanism loose to maneuver things however it should be pretty easy to push the end of the gold rod to the outside of the door, I just used a big adjustable wrench to push the gold bar out with ease. Install the door handle by reversing the steps.

I almost gave up due to the gold bar... in the end I would have saved a bunch of time if I had just removed the door handle to begin with.

Well, I did this today. The DIY could've been more detailed but really helped me at least know where the bolts are (usually the hardest part, sucks breaking shit cuz you missed one).

Anyways, the weird thing is that I got a replacement part online, and the part is missing some prongs. I hooked it up and it worked just fine??

here's a pic - the one on the right is the original, the prongs for the left clip are all there- the ones for the bigger clip on the right are missing on the new part.

Just did it today as well. I bought a non oem part online for $21 shipped and I believe it looked just like yours ^. Hardest part was the gold rod, pulling on it did nothing but when I stuck an allen key in there and used it to pry it popped right out.

I stuck a flathead in between the rod and the plastic and twisted it. Then reached with the same flathead through the top (there's a gap between the window and door) and carefully tapped it. Bout 5 min of that got it out.

So I'm guessing the extra part is kinda useless?

Jesus tap dancing Christ on a cracker that was a royal pain in the asshole.

Actuator is working great, but now I have a useless keyhole on the driver's side. :firemad::firemad::firemad:

I'm not fucking ripping that thing open to troubleshoot it. Just gonna hope that the key doesn't break on the passenger side if my remote battery dies on me. Otherwise it'll be a brick thru the window I guess.

Now its time to :drink: and purge the memory of this from my brain.

thanks God my actuator is now working because my key now wont open the door from driver side
I am having the same issue. I can only assume its because I didn't connect the silver rod properly, but oh well.
