As many of you coilover owners know that the turn bearing for the coilovers sometimes jam. Therefore, when we turn our steering wheel the spring gets turned too and pops when it compress too much (making the popping noise and ripping the plastic/rubber o ring that sits under and top of the springs).
Well I was getting very annoyed and frustrated because I already had an alignment done and didn't want to take apart my coilovers. But the irritating sound and the fact I know that I'm causing damage to the coilover everytime I steer has made me come to my sense to fix this problem.
Pictured here are Megan Racing coilovers but I think same goes for the majority of the coilovers out there.
I removed the coilover
I removed the 4 screws that set the camber to remove the camber plate(I don't think it's necessary to do this though).
Then I lubed it up as much as I can, make sure you lube it from the top too (not pictured is me lubing it from top). I used a Qtip to help me get into the tight places. Grab the top mount and move it around and apply more so the grease can seep in.
By the way I used this grease, found it lying around in the garage.
After doing this I put everything back together and went for a test drive.
Guess what it worked!!! No more popping sounds. But now I gotta get another alignment because my steering wheel is crooked
.
edit: I have no idea why I removed this, totally unnecessary lol (Knob to adjust damper).
