TS - your car is fine man , thats what the rev limiter is for , to keep you from messing up your engine. Now if you were to downshift into the wrong gear and hit 10k+ then worry ..

Hey guys,

I need your input on something that happened while driving my car. I was at a red light waiting to make a left turn. As the light turned green, i proceeded and made the left turn. At this point i had already shifted to second gear. All of a sudden, a BMW X5 which was on the lane next to me going the same direction was beside me. It seemed as if they wanted to race because the girls in it stepped on it. Anyhow, i decided to step on it to while in 2nd gear. Not paying attention to my revs, all of a sudden, i hear the motor cutting out and i looked at my revs and it was at 8200revs/min(Fuel cut off) where then i quickly shifted to 3rd gear. I saw the needle bounce a few times before i shifted to 3rd gear. I've never done this before so i am scared i might have damaged something. I have an 02 type-s with 50000miles(82000kms). You guys think i might have done something wrong? Any concrete advice is greatly appreciated.
