Question about registration and insurance

So I want to do a trade with my 98 civic for a RSX with cash ontop on my side. The thing is the dude does not have his pink slip for it. He said that his brothers name is on the pink slip now but he is deployed somewhere until the end of the summer. ( I asked him why his brother has it when the car is back here but he just says the brother has it with him) That means I can not register the car under my car and I can not get my own insurance on it. He said the car has USAA insurance and it should cover everything, so I'm guessing its full coverage.

My question is, is it possible for the guy to sign off for his brother ?

but since he doesnt have the pink slip, is there a extra copy of it at the dmv?

I need the registration to get parking. And I rather have it registered under me when i buy it.

You can do a Title search at the DMV. Its a pain in the ass but it will find your title. As far as the brother signing off... I have no clue.

dont do unless its his brother signs that pink, that person still owns that vehicle untill signed. as for insurance you can have 100 insurance policys on 1 vehicle if you want, your money. but just wait till his bro comes back not worth getting screwed in a bad deal.

rofl trying to buy a vehicle from someone who isn't on the insurance.

technically the brother could come back, call the police and you could be charged for receiving stolen property.

don't do shit until the brother is there to sign over the car.

i had a kind of similar situation with my old vehicle, a del sol...i bought it from someone who didnt have a title (he had bought it from someone who didnt provide title either), so the title was out there somewhere, registered to the orginal owner...basically what i ended up doing (which is illegal, but never got caught) is i applied for a lost title in the orginal owners name and forwarded it to my address. It costed about $80. One day the title arrived at my house in the orginal owners name. I then signed over the vehicle to myself (had to forge his name) and got a new clean title in my own name. I had insurance on the vehicle the whole time, so you should be able to get that part done no matter whos name its in. you should call your DMV though and see what they say...i was lucky that i never got caught and i no longer own the vehicle.
