Hey all,

The SRS light on my 04' RSX (53k miles) has been on for about a month and I'm due up for a safety inspection so I brought it to the dealership to find out what's up. They just called me and told me that there are not pulling any codes and asked if I have been in an accident. I've owned the car for over two years and never been in an accident with it. The light only came on recently so it cannot be due to any previous accident. The dealership is trying to tell me I may have to replace the entire SRS unit for over $1000 but they are looking into it further to see if that is definitely required.

So, is my SRS unit shot if the Acura dealership cannot pull any codes and has no explanation for me? If so, would replacement of the SRS unit possibly be covered by Acura? I appreciate for any responses you may have for me!

I had this problem. But it was because i swap from my cloth interior to leather. When I unhook the SRS component from the seat, the ECU could not detect the seat there and threw the SRS code. After swapping the seat, the code was still there so I resetted with that trick.

If your SRS was not there before and appeared out of randomness, then most likely its a glitch in the system which needs to be reset. Alot of people have had this problem and fixed it with the DIY.

good job not getting into a accident, always thumbs up on that.

Sometimes my SRS Light does pop on but I live in NYC so theres massive pot holes and bad curvature in the road. If I hit a bad bump the SRS pops on :( but it will go away after a few minutes.

If you have time before you get your inspection you can pull out your Dash Odometer and disable the light itself (since your not triggering codes it doesnt matter) then afterwards revert back and let the light stay on and figure it out later.

In regards to warranty your drive-train(motor/transmission) warranty might still be active but bumper to bumper is only 2-3 years after purchase? Correct me if I am wrong.

Great feedback guys, thank you much.

So I just spoke with the dealership and they seem to think it may have been in a non-reported accident before I purchased it. After pulling no codes they "re-initialized" the system and got some codes that subsequently went away.

They think it's one of two things;
1) the 'accident' they think it was in was fixed in such a way as to disrupt the SRS sensors in the front of the car (2+ years later?)
or
2) the SRS unit itself is shot

They said the could take apart the door panels and check the sensors but that that would cost me like $119 each door and may not be the cause of the issue. Or they could replace the SRS unit ($1000+) and that may not even be the problem.

With all that said, I am going to pick it up from Acura tomorrow and try the DIY method and see what happens. Unfortunately, I'm almost positive it will blink off and then just come back on.
