take it to a shop or ref and get it measured. then contest it by mail or court.

they are legal. I'm going to take it in and get it measured. already sent it back to the court not guilty.

If it was a drunk check point I'm sure this was at night, they cannot take accurate tint level measurements at night, it's just common sense, fight that crap. If this was during the day as well sounds like you can easily get outta this since it is legal. Good luck

exactly. at night the tint looks much darker than it really is...hence a dick cop would just give me a ticket.

Here in WNY the cops are dicks with tint, I just pay them. No fight left in me I guess. But I would find a NON-dick cop and tell him you just bought the car and have him measure the tint, most cops have a meter in the car.

#1 I live 5 mins from WNY
#2 ANY tint on front windows IE. driver or passenger side is UNSAFE glass which means your driving an unsafe vehicle. You can be towed if the cop is really a dick.
#3 IF the reason for the traffic stop is ONLY the tinted windows you MIGHT have a shot. I got out of a tint ticket because the cop said it was the reason he pulled me over and the judge said it wasnt a valid reason to conduct a traffic stop /shrug I still paid 30 court cost.
#4 Modding your car makes it worse 99% of the time you will have problems.(tickets/repairs) Ppl buy these cars and want turbo,superchargers,gauges,boost.....Buy a faster car from the start prolly cheaper and work better.

They're getting more strict here. I haven't been ticketed for it, but I couldn't pass inspection. The guy at inspection place told me that an undercover state trooper offered him $100 to pass some illegal tint and when he took the money he busted him, lol.

 

Did he measure it right there on the spot? How was he so certain that it was to dark?

When I got my windows done, I picked the legal limit (35%) here in MD, but they advised me that the car already had a slight & light green factory tint on the windows, so even though I chose a legal level I would still be to dark if measured.

I have yet to run into problems, and I hope it stays that way.

The registration has to say it's a hatchback, lift back or station wagon i believe. At least here in P.A. The retarded thing in the backwards state is my registration says my car is a "coupe"

I went through this myself because my regi says my car is a coupe.

 

ive had over 50 tint tickets in pa since 2003. there is no way out of it. if it was dark and no meter the cop will just say form his X years of experience he could tell it was illegal. and since most tint dries darker if you got 20% its going to show 17% on a meter calibrated or not. i applied for medical exemption and it still didnt work because pa requires " colorless film that does not alter the appearence of the vehicle" try to fight it you might win but most likely not

im from ct too. and its deff not 20%. i had to sign a waiver when i got 30%, legal is deff 35%, rear window can be as dark as possible. where in ct did you get stopped. it really depends on the area. i know alot of the cops out here and if its a slow night, they will do anything for an ego boost

 

they really dont have a quota, but yea it was probably a boring night for them, on the other side of the state where im from, RI side, they dont give a shit bout tints. even colored tints.

 

At least in Pittsburgh, when i got pulled over for my tint the officer has some type of device he puts onto the window and it shines light thru i think and tells hims how much light is getting thru= %. You could ask the cop if he could do this ? If not you may have to end up taking it off.

up here we have tint meters. he cant legaly give you a ticket for illegal tint unless he tested it, or if its colored tint, or reflective

 

sorry to bring this thread back to life after 2 month but tonight i just got pulled over on the expressway in Staten Island NY and i got metered 35% of 70%.. 70% as in legal limit.. cop was being a dick and gave me 2 tickets one for each window. My friend got pulled two weeks ago and got one ticket for two windows. You guys think i can fight to get one dropped. My tints are not even dark. but still illegal.. :/

Ill even put an external switch on my door to stop power from going to the windows.

Within the first 3 months that I had gotten my license I was leaving school and there was about 30+ cops sitting on the grass waiting for the student parking lot to get released (which I was in). It was click it or tick it month and the cops were parked around the corner where you couldnt see them until you were directly on the road. I turn the corner and next thing I know theres like 10 cops surrounding my car like im a murdered on the loose or some shit like that , im like WTF?.

They basically force me to the side of the road because I had no where to go and the cop comes up to me and goes "Do you know why your being pulled over?" , "No", "Its tick it or click it month and while doing a scan on the vehicles passing we couldnt see you in your car" , so then he brings out his handy dandy tint meter!!!(queer) and puts it on my window. Sure enough he tells me my tint is illegal and that I need to get it removed, so I told him my dad works for the sheriffs dept. in the next county over and he never had a problem with it, so the cop felt stupid and just let me go and said get it fixed, no ticket, no written warning etc. and after that day i've never had a problem with it.

make a kill switch to your windows.. thats what i did with my rsx. saved me a few times. :thumbsup:

is tapping into the fuse box the easiest way?
