My Engine bay was collecting dust and needed to be cleaned up alittle to give it a fresh look. People are sometimes scared to wash their engine but if its done properly it wont give any mechanical issues.

Went over to Canadian Tire to buy some Engine Degreaser

Turn your car off and let it cool down for 30 minutes before you start to spray gunk all over it.

While waiting for your motor to cool down, you have to cover 3 things with any plastic bag.

  • Alternator
  • Fuse Box
  • Battery

Once it's cooled down its time to spray the engine with the degreaser, Spray a good amount. If it gets on your fenders just wipe it off with a microfiber. Once you spray a fairly good amount let it soak for 10-15 minutes. If you really want to scrub off the dirt grab a toothbrush and start scrubbing away.

After 10-15 minutes take your garden hose and wash down everything. Once its washed down start your car and let it idle for another 10ish minutes. While it's idling you can grab a cloth and wiping the engine bay down. After its all dried up you'll end up with something like this;

I used this for an initial clean but now every few washes I open the hood (let cool). Cover the filter (SRI) and fusebox (Batt. in trunk) once cool spray bay with pre soak, close but dont latch hood spray the rest of the car. Switch to rinse open hood rinse, close then continue with rest of wash... when done open hood wipe some spots, close and rive away... Havent had a problem and its been going on 7years..
