I ran into the same issue myself. One day I removed it to inspect it and see how it looked inside and at that time I noticed the o-ring at the end. And now today I removed it again to clean out the inside and no o-ring at the end. I thought it fell inside the manifold but it wouldn't come out but seeing your thread helped me realize what happened.
